Why THC % Isn’t Everything

Why THC % Isn’t Everything

We all know that THC is a valuable compound within cannabis medicine, but simply chasing products with a high THCa or THC percentage will not always lead to a better overall experience. Let’s talk about why…

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid that’s known for its psychoactive effects, producing the high we all know. Studies have shown that THC has many positive effects like pain relief, appetite stimulation, nausea relief, & many more. The point of this post is not to down on THC, but to discuss the other compounds in cannabis that work together to produce the effect you are searching for.

We often hear “what flower has the highest % of THC?“. We want to help you understand what else you should be looking for. Let’s talk about the entourage effect…

The entourage effect is a term used to describe the effect produced by the collective compounds in a strain or product. These compounds include THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, terpenes, flavonoids and more. The specific combinations of these compounds are the reason why we feel a certain way, when we take a hit of our favorite strain.

With that said, THC isn’t the only thing you should be searching for. If you suffer from severe anxiety, a flower strain with 27% THC may not be the best fit for you. When really, your best option may be one with 18% THC, CBD and relaxing terpenes like linalool, or beta-caryophyllene. This mix could be what you have been looking for to relieve your social anxiety and enjoy being out with people, without feeling on-edge.

If you’re unable to see the test results for a certain strain, that doesn’t mean you can’t decide if it’s a good fit for you. Researching the strain to see what cannabinoids and terpenes are often found in it, can help you make a better decision. An example of this is Blue Dream. For some this may help you feel mentally calm, clear headed, and ready to take on the day. For others, it may be too mentally stimulating, causing overthinking, and anxiety.

We’re all different and so are our bodies and minds. It’s important for you to educate yourself and take notes on what strains help you and which ones don’t.
